BREWING GUIDES
Sediment in coffee: compare your filtering
Particles at the bottom of a cup do not by themselves mean bad coffee. Check the filter type and the recipe’s serving instructions. Choose one experiment suited to your equipment and taste.
Try changing first
Choose one experiment your equipment allows. Compare using the same coffee and recipe. This list is neither a diagnosis nor a sequence of changes to make all at once.

Check the filter and fit
Look for wear, tears and assembly problems. Use parts compatible with the device.

Follow the serving instructions
With a French press, follow the resting time and plunger position in the recipe. Pour carefully to avoid stirring sediment.

Compare compatible filters
If the device accepts paper and metal, compare one filter at a time using the same recipe. Filtering changes texture; it does not determine your preference.
Brew the next cup with what worked in this one.
